The Porcupine Singers are a northern style singing group that has been around for many, many years. The Porcupine Singers

been around since the turn of the century(1900's). They became popalar in the late 1960's when they started to travel as a
group. As the years went on and the singers came and gone the Porcupine Singers continued to sing, sharing their music with
the people.
The present day Porcupine Singers are under the leadership of Melvin D. Young Bear and Severt Young Bear II, the sons
of the late Severt Young Bear I. These two young men are trying to keep the tradition alive in their community. "The
tradition of singing".

Lakota traditional songs that were made famous by their fathers, uncles, and grandfathers. Their latest recording "Tribute
to Severt Young Bear I" is a good example of keeping the old and making the new.
Since Melvin and Severt II have the unique ability their father had to compose songs. They are keeping with the tradition,
So on this cd you will find songs from the past and you will find newly composed songs from the group.
